It's been two weeks since Atticus has joined us, and a lot has happened already. He has made 2 trips to the doctor (totally routine) and is gaining weight like a champ. He also did a really good job when the nurse had to stab him in the heal to draw some blood. No fun. He also got his first sponge bath. We were predicting he would hate it based on his hatred of getting his diaper changed, but he loved it. Maybe it was just the cute towel he loved. Now that the funky little umbilical cord has fallen off he can have a real bath. It's amazing how little milestones mean so much.

He is still working on a routine, but most of his day is spent eating and sleeping. He also loves to be bounced (by his dad) . I am still a little too sore for bouncing. Demian is sure working those calf muscles. We have been taking turns sleeping and it seems to be working out well so far. That little face is so cute, even when it wakes me from a deep sleep.
This whole thing is a process, and I am learning new things every day.
Good Intentions Gone Bad: I like to consider myself an environmentalist to some extent. We recycle everything, we uses reusable grocery sacks, if it's yellow, we let it mellow. So, the idea of disposable diapers that sit in landfills for 500 years really doesn't sit well with me. That being said I am also not to fond of the idea of the cloth diaper. First off, I am not washing all that poo in my machine. Gross. As for the diapers services, that's great and all, but say you are away from home, now you have to pack that dirty diaper with you for the rest of your day, because you have to turn it in to the service. Not too excited about that idea either. My friend Colleen found the perfect alternative. Gdiapers. They are flushable. If you don't want to flush you can toss them in the trash and they will break down in a land fill in about 50 days. Much better and a few centuries. The third option is to compost the wet ones. I think I'll pass. We were sold on the idea right away. The answer to our prayers. I won't have a guilty conscience about the disposables, and I don't have to haul poop around with me on the road. So a case of gdiapers arrives, and after we used up all the disposables we took from the hospital it was time to try them out. Basically it works like this. There is a cute fabric outside pant, with a plastic snap in liner, and what looks like a feminine hygiene pad that fits into the plastic liner. Simple enough. More steps than a disposable, but worth it to me. That was until Mr. Atticus leaked through 3 of them back to back. Now I have a case of gdiapers, 6 little pants, 12 plastic liners. and a big ol' mess. I haven't given up hope 100%. I may try them out again once he gets a little bigger in hopes that they fit better, but for now, it's back to the disposable. Sorry Mother Earth.

Dang! He looks so big already!! I bought him a t-shirt in Santa Barbara, but I think he might have outgrown it already! Maybe it is one of those "the camera adds pounds" type thing:) Hopefully he will be able to wear it this summer!
Don't give up hope on anything with a baby - they change so much that even if you think it might not work now just try later and you'll be surprised it might be the best thing! So glad that he might look like you too : )
