I have always hated our kitchen counters. Always. They were cheap looking, nasty colored and stained constantly. God forbid if you spill red wine or coffee anywhere on these counters. We have discussed many different options for new counters, granite, concrete, laminate, spray-on (no I didn't make that last one up). Factoring in price and the time it would take to install, we decided on these made to look like granite, but not really granite, laminate counters. I love them. Demian and Miles had them installed in just two days. My job was to keep Atticus out of the way.
When it was all done, and everything was put back in place, I felt like my kitchen could be featured in Sunset Magazine. I know it is not that amazing, but the little things seem to make all the difference. Oh, not only did I get new counters, but I finally got to use a wedding gift I received over 5 years ago. Colleen and Carrie gave us an amazing sink as a wedding gift. We didn't install it in our old house, because we thought we might get new counter there. The same reasoning went into this house too. Why tear up the counters to put in a sink, just to tear them up again when we get new counters. So finally, after years of cursing my not so stainless steel sink, and trying to fit large baking pan in one half of said sink, I have beautiful ceramic full sink.
This new kitchen makes me want to cook gourmet food. It deserves nicer appliances and no dishes in the sink. It demands fancy high end dish soaps. While I won't have all of that, I do keep it cleaner and with less clutter. With the old counters I wanted to cover the ugly as much as possible but with these, less is more.
Thanks to Demian and Miles for giving me a "new" kitchen. I love it.
Nasty counter! Adios
Because the counters are dark, it is really hard to do them justice with a photo.
Trust me when I say they rock.
