Outback in Arlington

Who knew you could see Kangaroos in Arlington? We did. This is why last weekend, Lillianna, Evangeline, Atticus and I headed up to Arlington to the Outback Kangaroo Farm. The weather was so nice, I felt like we just had to do something outside, and I've never seen a Kangaroo up close, so why not.

The trip was not with out a little drama however. Poor Atticus got a little sick on the way up and unfortunately puked all over his clothes and my car. I failed Parenting 101, and did not bring a back up shirt. As I was cleaning him up in the parking lot, Lillianna ran into the gift shop to get him a new shirt. Unfortunately the smallest they had was a 10-12. Well, it makes for a funny story anyway, and he has a shirt he can wear in the 4th grade. Once he was cleaned up, he felt much better and kept asking for the KANGAROOS!

Do to the hazmat situation in my car, we missed the first part of the tour, and the Lemurs, so I didn't get to hear about why this family has all these animals, but let me tell you, there are a lot of animals here. They all are pretty much free roaming. In fact when we finally caught up with the group, a 160lb Roo, was hopping right behind Lillianna. I was totally surprised. Not only were they right by us, but we even got to feed and pet them. We even saw a Mama Kangaroo with a Joey in her pouch. Seriously cute.

There is a lot more than Roos at this farm though. We saw donkeys, chickens, turkeys (one named Mr. Feathers), mini goats, peacocks, llamas, ostrich, and alpaca.

Atticus really liked the mini goat that was just his size, and was more than a little put out that he could ride the llama. As we were petting them he kept saying "ride it, ride it". My highlight was feeding the llama with a little pellet. The owner instructed up to put a pellet into our mouth and the llama would eat it from there. It was like giving the llama a little smooch. I really wanted a photo of Atticus doing this but he just wanted to eat the pellet himself. Not surprising since his favorite snack is dog food.

I highly recommend a trip up to this farm. It is very rural and family run. You can tell the owners love all their animals, and they enjoy what they do. Plus, you get to get up close to these critters, and feed and pet them. Except the Ostrich, they are not so friendly.

These animals are very sweet.
My llama make out session.

Please note ill-fitting shirt

These birds are amazing to look at, but the sound they make is awful.

Atticus wasn't convinced Mr. Feather's was nice.

Oh, Mr. Feathers
