Cheers!

When Demian's grandma Jean passed away in January, we were looking for a way to celebrate her. We came up with a perfect idea. Making Kahlua. As long as Demian can remember Grandma Jean made her own Kahlua. She passed her recipe down to children and grandchildren, and we though it would be great to honor her, by doing something she enjoyed with family.

Demian's siblings came over, we got all the supplies together, popped opened a bottle of red wine, (Grandma Jean loved some wine) and started making Kahlua.

I thought it would be fun to share the process with everyone. Here is what you need to start.

1 Gallon Decent Vodka
4c Sugar
1 c good ground coffee
8 Vanilla Beans
1/2 Gallon Water

Cook on low for 2 hours. Do not boil. Let cool completely. Store in air tight container for a minimum of 30 days. (We did ours for 60). Drain thought cheese cloth into bottles. Drink up!

The big jug.

This draining part takes some time.

I ordered custom labels with her picture and we gave them out to family members at her service in Yelm. I think we might make this Kahlua making thing an annual event!
