Still Cool After All These Years

It is official. Demian and I are still cool. It has been confirmed by the fact that teenagers want to hang out with us.

Xavier and Maraya have always spent time at our house. They would come for part of Christmas Break, part of Spring Break, and usually a week in the summer. We have been doing this for almost 10 years. After their time at our house, Demian and I would comment to each other about how much fun we had, and that we should enjoy it while it lasts. As the kids got older and busier we became more concerned that the time would come when they wouldn't want to spend so much time at our house. Friends, hobbies, sports and even boyfriends/girlfriends would take up all their time, and be a lot more fun than hanging out in Brier, with old Aunt and Uncle.

Well ,Xavier is now 16 and Maraya 13 and they still like us, and maybe even think we are cool. They both just spent a week with us and it was a blast. Atticus is obsessed with them, and spent most of the time following them around or asking "where a Raya at, where a X-man at... I find them". These two kids amaze me. I don't know many teens that would willingly want to hang out with a toddler, and be so hands on and patient. Maraya even volunteered to read Atti his nightly book. Teen are supposed to be angsty, antisocial and self absorbed. Not these two. They are polite, super funny, and really smart. I still think there will be a time when we are not cool enough for them to want to hang out, but until then I am going to enjoy their company. And, I can't wait for them to come back.
