One of Atti's birthday gifts was swimming lessons at the Mountlake Terrace pool. We've been there several times with with Kenzie-Ben and once for a birthday party for our friend Jeffery. Despite Atti's fearlessness he's never been that confident in the water. This swim class was my attempt to get him more comfortable in the water.
His approach to swim class has been baby steps. The first few classes he was happy to just sit on the edge of the pool with his feet in the water. He never seemed upset or like he didn't want to be there. He was happy to splash with is feet and play with the props they have. Next he moved to sitting on the little bench in the water. He would sit there with a smile on his face, seeming to enjoy it, but never getting off the bench then the teacher tried to help him with a back float.
He did seem a little frustrated because he wanted to play ring-around-the-rosey (nosey). He kept wanting to play with the other kids, but not wanting the leave the security of the bench.
Finally he allowed the teacher to hold him in the water to play. Once he felt safe with the teacher, the fun began. Now, he is off the bench, doing back floats, tummy floats, and ring-around-the-nosey with all his friends.

So happy to hear Atti has made his way off the bench! He's going to be a fish before you know it!
Yahoo! Love that he got off the bench finally : ) Now we just have to get him to run on the crazy floating mat with Kenzie-Ben. He will love the puddle-jumper float thing too when you are in Entiat. It's so nice to know they are safe around the water when wearing that so you can relax a little.
